Report: 2003 Brisbane Winter Seed Festival.

‘The words of God are seeds.
Some fall on deaf ears. Some fall into open hearts.
The seed is God’s life and can be planted within us.
The seed is in Christ, but His seed is in you.
The seed of you.
The life he has planned for you to live.
This is what the Christian faith is all about.
Not being religious, but possessing a new life.
A new seed.’
The Miracle of the Seed, Victor Hall & Murray Wylie. 2002

On the evening of the 2nd of August 2003, the youth of Brisbane Christian Fellowship hosted a Seed Festival. The name Seed Festival is given to the evening because it is one of celebration. A celebration of the seed of God as a reality in our lives. Within each of us, the seed of God is planted. As we choose to follow God and make Him Lord of our lives, His seed sprouts and grows within us. This brings life to us. We are thrilled to have such opportunities as this to share the life of God with others in a celebration of song and word – a Seed Festival.

Our Seed Festivals are relaxed concert-style evenings where we share original songs and pieces written by families and young people of BCF. Many singers and musicians are involved and pieces are brought in groups of family members and friends. The songs are an expression of the life we have found in the Lord and are sung joyfully without a sense of self-promotion. Our Seed Festivals are open invitation evenings and we invite and encourage friends and family to come and share in the life that we know and love.

While the evenings are a joy to host, they are not without hard work and much ‘behind the scenes’ planning and organisation. This was evident in the preparations toward the night, which involved around 200 people. Preparations included music and singing rehearsals, sound and lighting practices, floral and plant arrangements, audiovisual planning, as well as the assembling of parking and hosting teams. Again, all involved were those from BCF – volunteers happy to participate where needed. It was only because of this willingness that the night was able to proceed so successfully. It is this ‘behind the scenes’ work that speaks as much as the night of song itself, of the life that we live – one of participation in the life of God and a givenness to all those who surround us.
So in hosting these evenings, we trust that they are a joy to all who visit. In sharing the life we know through song, it is our hope that we can impart this life and touch the hearts of all those who come. It is a joy to be able to share the life of God through our songs, but more than this, we hope that it is the light in our faces and the love in our hearts that show the seed of God alive and growing within us.

‘By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another’. John 13:35
